Cinema VinesAfter the success of Bhoothakaalam and Dies Irae, director Rahul Sadasivan is back with a new horror project, Odiyan, which officially entered the Malayalam film industry following its pooja ceremony on Monday. The event was held at the Anchumana temple in Kochi and was attended by the film’s leading actors Prithviraj Sukumaran and Manju Warrier, along with co‑producer Supriya Menon, director Rahul Sadasivan, and producer Mallika Sukumaran.
The production is a joint venture between Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Prithviraj Productions, marking Dharma’s first foray into Malayalam cinema. The film is being made in five languages—Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi— and is billed as a horror thriller that explores the clash between truth and illusion, the tagline chosen by the makers.
Rahul Sadasivan has written the screenplay and T. D. Ramakrishnan is responsible for the dialogues, while Christo Xavier will compose the music. Prithviraj is scheduled to shoot his portions for ten days, whereas Manju Warrier will be on set for fifteen days during the first schedule.
The title Odiyan may ring familiar to Malayalam audiences, as it was previously used for a 2018 film starring Mohanlal and directed by V. A. Shrikumar Menon, with Manju Warrier again in the lead role. The new project is expected to bring fresh horror elements to the genre while retaining the cultural nuances that have made the earlier film popular.
