Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s upcoming comedy‑thriller Udta Teer has been denied a release permit in Nepal, according to a letter from the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology. The official order, received by Bollywood Hungama, was issued by Bishal Bhandari, Section Officer, and states that the film cannot be screened publicly in the country because it falls under the prohibited subject matter outlined in Section 5(3) of the Film (Production, Exhibition and Distribution) Act, 2026 B.S.
The denial was formalised on Ashwin 30, 2083 in the Nepali calendar, which corresponds to Friday, October 16, 2026, in the Gregorian calendar. The letter was communicated directly to the makers of Udta Teer and is now in the possession of the entertainment news outlet.
Produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla and Apoorva Mehta’s Dharma Productions, with additional backing from Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain’s Sikhya Entertainment, the film is written and directed by Akash A Kaushik. It follows the story of a Pakistani spy who infiltrates India, loses his memory, and mistakenly believes he is an ardent Indian patriot, leading to chaotic and comedic consequences.
While the film has faced release hurdles in several Middle Eastern markets—alongside titles such as Dhurandhar, Border 2, Fighter, Sky Force, Article 370 and Tiger 3—the Nepalese ban marks the first major domestic setback. The decision reflects the country’s strict enforcement of its film regulation act, which aims to prevent the distribution of content deemed inappropriate or politically sensitive.
Industry observers note that the ban may affect the film’s overall box‑office performance, especially in the South Asian region where cross‑border releases are a significant revenue stream. Fans of Khurrana and Khan are left waiting for an official statement from the production team regarding potential appeals or alternative distribution plans.
