The teaser for Mirzapur: The Movie has given fans a first look at how the hit streaming series will translate to the big screen. Director Gurmmeet Singh has confirmed that the film is being crafted with an Adults Only certification in mind, aiming for a straight ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). He explained that while the team is committed to preserving the gritty essence of the original series, they are also navigating the CBFC’s guidelines on language and content to strike the right balance.
“We’re targeting an Adults Only certification straight away. Then, of course, the CBFC has its own guidelines regarding language, what we can say, and what we can’t. We’ve tried to manage that and strike the right balance,” Singh said. He added that audiences have become more receptive to mature storytelling, citing recent releases such as Animal and Dhurandhar as evidence that adult‑oriented films are finding a place in theatres.
The film will bring back several key actors from the original series, including Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi and Divyenndu Sharma. The ensemble also features Abhishek Banerjee, Rasika Dugal, Mohitt Malik, Sheeba Chadha, Rajesh Tailang, Pramod Pathak, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Harshita Shekhar Gaur, Shweta Tripathi and Sonal S. Chauhan. Production is a joint effort by Amazon MGM Studios and Excel Entertainment, with Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar producing under the Excel banner, and Kassim Jagmagia and Vishal Ramchandani co‑producing.
Written by Puneet Krishna and directed by Gurmmeet Singh, the movie is slated for a theatrical release on 4 September 2026 in both Hindi and Telugu. Fans of the franchise can expect the same intense drama and raw violence that defined the series, now adapted for the cinematic experience while adhering to the CBFC’s adult certification standards.
