Bollywood actress Preity Zinta has taken to social media to voice her support for the student protest led by the Centre for Justice and Peace (CJP). In a post on X, she urged activist Sonam Wangchuk to end his hunger strike, calling on the government to open a meaningful dialogue with both the activist and the students so that his health does not deteriorate further. “I hope our govt starts a meaningful dialogue with Sonam Wangchuk and the student bodies so his health does not deteriorate any further! Please end your fast Sonam. Your health is as important as this fight,” Zinta wrote, adding that “you and the students are fighting for the future of India and for our youth.” She concluded with heartfelt support for the students and a plea for their cause: “More power to all of you. Jai Hind.”
Sonam Wangchuk has been on an indefinite fast since 28 June 2026, demanding accountability over alleged NEET exam paper leaks and other irregularities. After three weeks of hunger strike, he was forcibly taken to a hospital from Jantar Mantar on Saturday. The CJP‑led protest march on Monday saw thousands of students and activists move from Jantar Mantar toward Parliament, but police reportedly used lathi charges and tear gas to disperse the crowd.
Several other celebrities have also backed the student movement. Shabana Azmi marched alongside the protestors and spoke to the media, emphasizing the peaceful nature of the demonstration: “All of us who are here have come for a peaceful protest, to exercise the right granted to us by our country's constitution. Mahatma Gandhi taught us how to conduct a peaceful protest, and we have absolutely no intention of causing any kind of violence.” She added that the focus should remain on supporting the cause rather than on the absence of Bollywood stars.
Other Bollywood figures such as Riteish Deshmukh, Vir Das, Sonakshi Sinha, and Diljit Dosanjh have voiced their support on social media, joining a growing chorus of public figures calling for reforms in the educational system and for a fair examination process.
