Bollywood actors Gurfateh Pirzada, Pratibha Ranta and singer Akasa Singh joined a student protest in Mumbai, posting videos and photos on social media to encourage others to speak out. The trio appeared at Shivaji Park, where they shared images of the crowd and urged the public to raise their voices against the current political climate. Pirzada used his Instagram to call for a national awakening, writing, “Jaago desh, jaago. Ek baar phir kranti aayi hai,” and added that people should discuss the protest “like it’s Dhurandhar 3.”
Ranta echoed the call, posting footage of students waving the Indian Constitution and captioning it, “Ab nahi toh kab! Break the silence. Step out. Speak up.” She also reposted monochrome photos of the three activists together at the demonstration. The protest, which began in New Delhi at Jantar Mantar and moved to Parliament during the Monsoon session, has now spread to Mumbai and other cities.
Police detained several protesters in central Mumbai on Monday as they gathered at Chaitya Bhoomi, the cremation site of B. R. Ambedkar, to show solidarity with activist Sonam Wangchuk and the Sansad Chalo march of the Cockroach Janata Party. The demonstrations also called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Reports indicate that some protesters were arrested even before reaching the site.
The movement, sparked by the Cockroach Janata Party’s activism, has drawn attention from media professionals, including a journalist with a Master’s degree in Journalism who has worked for outlets such as The Times and The Hindu. The collective effort of actors, singers, and students underscores a growing demand for political accountability and civic engagement across India.
