In Christopher Nolan’s latest epic, The Odyssey, fans have marveled at Matt Damon’s sculpted physique, but the actor has publicly credited a lesser‑known figure for a significant portion of the on‑screen bulk. In a recent episode of the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, Damon revealed that many of the film’s memorable arm shots were performed by his stunt double, Canadian performer Devyn Dalton.
During a discussion about the film’s “force perspective” sequences with the Laestrygonians, Damon explained that the giants were portrayed by a mix of tall and short stuntmen. “My double was a woman, a female stunt performer who had the greatest arms I’ve ever seen,” he said. “When she came into the catering tent, it was the first time I met her. I went up and hugged her and thanked her for all the work she put in.”
Dalton, 34, stands more than a foot shorter than Damon and is 21 years his junior. She performed the Laestrygonians scene in which Odysseus is pursued and attacked by the towering giants. Damon noted that while the shots were almost entirely his arms, the credit for the muscular appearance should go to Dalton, whose powerful upper body made the giants look truly imposing.
Dalton’s career spans motion‑capture work, voice acting, and stunt performance. She began acting and dancing in Edmonton before being scouted by an agent who brought her to Vancouver. Her first feature role was in Rise of the Planet of the Apes, where she played two live‑action characters and worked alongside Andy Serkis and Terry Notary. She later returned for War of the Planet of the Apes as Cornelius.
Her television credits include Nickelodeon’s A Fairly Odd Christmas, Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library, and voice work for series such as Barbie’s Rock N’ Royal, Beyblade Burst, and My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. She has also performed stunts in films like Percy Jackson: The Sea of Monsters, Godzilla, X‑Men: Dark Phoenix, Skyscraper, and The Predator.
Dalton recently portrayed Cosmo in The Electric State, working with the Russo Brothers and reuniting with Millie Bobby Brown, whom she had previously double for in Once Upon a Time in Wonderland and Intruders. She trained with movement coach Terry Notary for the role and is slated to appear in upcoming projects such as Thunderbolts and The Last of Us.
