In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, she recounted her marriage to Hyder Ali Khan, the stepbrother of Bollywood star Aamir Khan, and described the abuse she endured during their union.
According to Grover, the couple met through a mutual friend and, after only 18 days of dating, Hyder proposed. Facing opposition from her mother, the pair decided to elope and were married in 2000. At the time, she was unaware that Hyder suffered from schizophrenia, a fact she claims she learned only later. She alleges that on the third day of their marriage, Hyder physically assaulted her during an intimate moment, leaving bruises and deep emotional trauma.
Despite the violence, Grover says she tried to salvage the relationship for five years, hoping for improvement. After the birth of their daughter, she says divorce proceedings were initiated and she was sent back to her mother’s house. She also claims that Aamir Khan was aware of her difficulties and had warned her against marrying Hyder, stating that she had not made the right decision. Grover recounts that Aamir did not want any ties with Hyder’s family and that his mother, Tahir Abbu, was kept away from him during his final days.
Today, Grover says Hyder lives in difficult circumstances. He reportedly has no home, struggles to find food, and sometimes stays in a chawl or is helped by friends. She expresses a mix of sorrow and sympathy, noting that he is surrounded by people who give him alcohol and that no one looks after him. Grover ends by praying that, if he ever passes, he finds peace, acknowledging the suffering he has endured.
Hyder Ali Khan is the son of Shanaz from her first marriage. After Shanaz married filmmaker Tahir Hussain, Hyder became part of the Khan family, though he is not Tahir’s biological son. Before pursuing acting, he worked as a cabin crew member with Qatar Airways.
