Armaan Malik postpones song release amid CJP protest; expresses solidarity with students

Indian pop singer Armaan Malik announced on social media that he will postpone the release of his new track, “Gaya Kaam Se,” which was originally slated to drop on July 22, the singer’s birthday. In a video message, Malik explained that the current climate in the country feels inappropriate for a celebratory launch, saying, “I poured my heart into this song, but things just don’t feel right now. I want to wait a little longer and give it to you when the time feels right and when we’re in better circumstances.” He asked fans for understanding and support as he delays the release until a more suitable moment.

Malik’s decision comes amid nationwide protests by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, where students have been demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in the NEET examinations. The protests have escalated, with police using lathi charges against demonstrators, sparking criticism from Bollywood and television personalities who have voiced concerns about the use of force during the march. The CJP has been staging a “Chalo Sansad” march to Parliament, and activist Sonam Wangchuk joined the protestors, starting an indefinite hunger strike on June 28.

Prior to announcing the postponement, Malik had already expressed solidarity with the students. In a separate social‑media post, he wrote, “I don’t claim to have all the answers, and I believe it’s important to understand every issue with care before speaking. But there are some values we should never lose sight of. Students deserve fairness. Peaceful protests deserve respect. Empathy should never be conditional, and dialogue should never be met with indifference. Our country and its people deserve to be heard.” His statement underscored his belief that the current situation demands sensitivity and respect for the protestors’ cause.

The CJP’s campaign began on June 6, demanding that Pradhan step down over alleged leaks during the NEET exam process. The protests have drawn attention to the broader debate over educational reforms and the role of the government in safeguarding exam integrity. Malik’s choice to pause his release reflects a broader trend among public figures who are weighing the impact of their artistic output against the backdrop of social unrest.
