Tom Holland Destin Daniel Cretton Break Down Spider-Man Brand New Day's Explosive Spider-Man vs Hulk Battle; First Actor to Headline Fourth Solo Spidey Film

At a recent press conference in Los Angeles, Tom Holland, director Destin Daniel Cretton, and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige discussed the highly‑anticipated clash between Spider‑Man and the Hulk in the new film Spider‑Man: Brand New Day. The event, which drew coverage from the Hindustan Times, marked the first time the character of Spider‑Man has been shown alongside the Hulk in a live‑action Marvel Cinematic Universe film.

Holland, who has already starred in three solo Spider‑Man movies, is now the first actor to headline a fourth standalone film. Brand New Day will see him team up with a host of other MCU favorites, including the Punisher and, for the first time, the Hulk. Trailer footage has already teased a confrontation between Holland’s Peter Parker and Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner, which promises to be both explosive and surprisingly intimate, according to Cretton.

Director Destin Daniel Cretton explained that filming the Hulk was a unique challenge. “When you shoot the Hulk, you are shooting Mark and Tom,” he said. “It was very easy for me. They were able to improvise and bring life to every moment they were together.” Cretton added that the actors had to trust the process, especially when Holland had to stand on an apple box while Ruffalo’s massive Hulk hand appeared to be holding him.

Holland described the scene as a “peculiar experience.” He recalled stepping outside the visual effects bubble, seeing a mirror on set, and having to commit fully to the moment. “I remember standing on an apple box while Mark held this gigantic Hulk hand, and I would pretend it was choking me,” he said. “He does the voice, and there were moments where I said, ‘I just have to trust the process.’”

Kevin Feige highlighted the significance of the pairing, calling it a “big geek moment.” He noted that prior to 2016, Spider‑Man had existed outside the MCU, but now that the character is part of the shared universe, new possibilities emerge. “To see Spidey and Hulk together is one of those things that I didn’t dare dream would be possible,” Feige remarked.

The film also features a strong supporting cast, including Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo. Spider‑Man: Brand New Day will hit theaters worldwide on July 31, offering fans a fresh chapter in the Spider‑Man saga and a first‑time meeting with the Hulk in the MCU.
