Paresh Rawal Opens Up About Sushant Singh Rajput's Death and His Decision to Leave Politics

Actor Paresh Rawal has spoken candidly about his strong dislike for the sensationalist media coverage that surrounded the death of fellow actor Sushant Singh Rajput in 2020. In an interview with Vicky Lalwani on the podcast, Rawal made it clear that the relentless “circus” around Rajput’s passing was something he “bloody hated.” He described the situation as a media spectacle that unfolded during the COVID‑19 lockdown, when television networks were broadcasting endless speculation and sensational stories.

The conversation began when Lalwani mentioned Rawal’s decision to stay off news channels during the lockdown, to which Rawal replied that he had stepped away because of his blood pressure. He then turned to the extensive coverage of Rajput’s death, which occurred on June 14, 2020, in Mumbai, and expressed his frustration with how the case had been turned into a media frenzy.

Rawal also reflected on his brief political career. He served as a Member of Parliament for the BJP from Ahmedabad East after winning the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. However, he admitted that the reality of the job did not live up to his expectations, citing the heavy workload and constant travel. He said he left politics because it wasn’t his calling, adding that he had entered the field for a limited purpose and viewed it as a noble profession that required total commitment.

One of Rawal’s biggest concerns while in politics was the temptation to make promises he could not keep. He warned that repeating such promises would turn him into a dishonest person, something that would harm his integrity as an actor. He noted that he had to maintain honesty in his craft, and that the political environment made that difficult.

After stepping back from politics, Rawal has focused on his acting career. His most recent work includes the film “Welcome To The Jungle.” The actor has reiterated that he has regained control over his craft and is committed to continuing his work in cinema.
