On the one‑year anniversary of the film Saiyaara on July 18, music composer Tanishk Bagchi took to Instagram to share an emotional reflection on his work on the movie’s title track. The post, which highlighted the song’s popularity and the effort he poured into its creation, also revealed his frustration with the financial rewards he has received.
Bagchi wrote that the track was his first collaboration with Yash Raj Films (YRF) and its music arm. He described how he had invested “everything” into the song, from production and composition to vocal tuning and arrangements. He added that the payment he received from YRF was only enough to cover the live and mix costs, leaving him with “zero” earnings from the track. The composer went on to say that, according to the royalty statement, he has yet to receive a single ₹8 lakh for a song that has amassed millions of streams and views.
In his message, Bagchi clarified that the post was not a plea for sympathy but an attempt to shed light on his experience. He stated that the incident has altered his view of the industry and that he will now only work with producers and directors who value creativity, honesty and the people who build the music. He also expressed gratitude toward lyricist Mohit Suri and singer Irshad Kamil, whom he credited for supporting the project.
Following the composer’s remarks, a YRF spokesperson released a statement addressing the royalty arrangement. The company explained that the title track was a joint effort of three composers—Bagchi, Faheem Abdullah and Arslan Nizami—and that royalties would be shared equally among them as per the contractual agreement. YRF asserted that it had paid all collaborators their due, “as per contra.”
