The family of convicted murderer Paul Caneiro has re‑entered public discussion after NBC’s Dateline aired a new episode on Friday about the 2018 quadruple murders that shook Colts Neck, New Jersey. The episode prompted a flurry of social‑media posts from relatives who shared memories of the victims on the anniversary of the killings. One such post, shared by Kateith Elizabeth on Facebook, expressed a daily longing for the deceased uncle, aunt and cousins.
Paul Caneiro was sentenced earlier this year to four consecutive life terms without parole for the murders of his brother Keith, sister‑in‑law Jennifer, and their children Jesse and Sophia. In addition to the homicide convictions, the court found him guilty of aggravated arson, illegal possession of a firearm and knife, theft, misuse of entrusted property, and obstructing his own arrest. Despite the charges, Caneiro has consistently claimed innocence.
Susan Caneiro, Paul’s wife, has kept a low profile since the crimes. Public records show she remains legally married to him—New Jersey law does not dissolve a marriage solely by imprisonment. After the 2018 murders and the fire that destroyed the family home in Ocean Township, Susan moved to Toms River, New Jersey. She has declined media interviews; when the New York Post asked for comment she replied, “No comment. I will not comment on anything.” Court documents indicate she was unemployed in the months leading up to the murders.
The couple’s elder daughter, Katelyn (Katie), graduated from Seton Hall University and works as an emergency‑room nurse. She testified for the defense in Paul’s 2026 trial, describing his emotional reaction upon learning that his brother, sister‑in‑law and their children were dead. Katelyn has repeatedly posted on Facebook about missing the family members, calling Jesse “my person” and Sophia “my mini me.”
Marissa Caneiro, the younger daughter, also stayed out of the spotlight. During the trial she briefly testified that her father collapsed to his knees after the murders and that she comforted him as he cried. Since the trial’s conclusion, neither Katelyn nor Marissa has made regular public appearances.
