Writer Farhad Samji, who recently penned the Akshay Kumar‑starrer Welcome to the Jungle, has turned his attention to a franchise that has become a personal favorite. The film, which has already grossed ₹131.85 crore at the Indian box office, set the stage for Samji’s next big project: Golmaal 5. The franchise celebrated its 20th anniversary this week, marking two decades since the original Golmaal hit screens on 14 July 2006.
Under the direction of Rohit Shetty, the main shooting schedule for Golmaal 5 wrapped a few months ago. Samji told the Hindustan Times that the energy on set has been “infectious” and that he is confident the new instalment will be the best the series has ever produced. He added that once the film is finished and promotion begins, the team will “go full throttle.”
Samji explained that one of the biggest advantages of returning to the Golmaal universe is that the groundwork is already in place. Unlike a brand‑new franchise, the characters are familiar to audiences, which frees the writer to focus on comedy and relationships rather than introductions. He noted that the mute character and other recurring faces are “already hits,” giving him more room to play with the script.
Beyond the creative benefits, the writer said the franchise feels like family. After working on five films, he said the cast and crew often tie personal milestones to the various Golmaal chapters. “I have an emotional connection to it; it’s like a family,” he said, recalling how milestones such as children starting school or getting married are measured against the film being shot at the time.
Rohit Shetty’s birthday in March 2026 became a celebratory moment for fans when he officially announced Golmaal 5. A reunion video featured Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Shreyas Talpade, Kunal Kemmu, and Tusshar Kapoor, and confirmed Sharman Joshi’s return to the franchise after the first film. The announcement has fans buzzing with anticipation for the next chapter in this beloved comedy series.
