Cinema VinesPriyanka Chopra Jonas has confirmed that a sequel to her 2016 Marathi feature Ventilator will hit screens in 2027. The new film, titled Ventilator 2, will be produced under her own banner Purple Pebble Pictures and will see the actress reunite with director and writer Rajesh Mapuskar, who helmed the original. While the release date is set for 2027, details about the cast and storyline remain under wraps.
Chopra Jonas announced the project on Instagram, reflecting on the significance of Ventilator in her journey as a producer. She wrote, “10 years ago, with @purplepebblepictures, I decided I want to tell stories that mean something. Ventilator was one of those very important stories to us at the company. A decade later, we’re coming back to it, with so much more…” The post underscored the company’s mission to support narratives that carry depth and meaning.
In addition to Chopra Jonas, the production team will include Dr. Madhu Chopra and Rajesh Mapuskar, with the film being backed by both Purple Pebble Pictures and Magij Pictures. Mapuskar’s return is particularly notable, as he directed the original Ventilator, which earned three National Film Awards, including Best Director, Best Editing and Best Sound Mixing.
Ventilator first released in 2016 and centered on the Kamerkar family, who gather at a hospital after an elderly relative is placed on a ventilator just before Ganesh Chaturthi. The Marathi film explored family dynamics, generational gaps and lingering tensions through a blend of humour and emotion. The upcoming sequel promises to revisit these themes, though specifics about the plot and supporting cast are still pending.
Founded by Chopra Jonas, Purple Pebble Pictures has supported a diverse slate of projects across languages and genres, including Pahuna: The Little Visitors, Paani, The Sky Is Pink, The White Tiger, Firebrand, To Kill a Tiger and Anuja. With Ventilator 2, the production house is returning to one of its early successes, bringing together Chopra Jonas and Mapuskar for another chapter in the story.
