Kavita Kaushik Urges Police to Show Restraint Amid Sonam Wangchuk's Removal; Students Protest for Medical Education

Television actress Kavita Kaushik, best known for her role as Chandramukhi Chautala in the series FIR, has taken to social media to support students who gathered at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi to protest for better medical education. In a video posted on her accounts, Kaushik urged the Delhi Police to exercise restraint and compassion after activist and educator Sonam Wangchuk was forcibly removed from the protest site on the 20th day of his indefinite hunger strike.

In the clip, Kaushik addressed police officers directly, reminding them that they, too, have families waiting for them at home. "Delhi Police, I wanted to make a request to you. The thing is, you all have families too, don’t you? Parents, children, siblings, relatives," she said, speaking in Hindi before translating her message for a wider audience.

She explained why the students had taken to the streets, citing the need for qualified doctors during medical emergencies. "So, God forbid, if they were to face a medical emergency in the future, they wouldn’t encounter a fake doctor but instead be treated by a genuine, competent doctor who could save their lives. That is why these students are protesting," Kaushik added.

Kaushik called on the police to handle the demonstrators with compassion instead of force, urging officers not to raise their hands against the students or ordinary citizens. "Whatever happens, do not raise a hand against the children or citizens of my country; do not hurt them. That is all I have to say. Do not display your might before them," she pleaded.

She concluded by reminding law‑enforcement personnel that, even if they receive orders, they also possess a conscience that should guide their actions. "Regardless of the order, you too have a mind, an intellect, and a conscience. You must make use of that very conscience," Kaushik said.
