Social‑media personality and former Bigg Boss Tamil Season 9 contestant ‘Watermelon Star’ Divakar has been taken into custody by the Kilpauk police in Chennai on charges of criminal intimidation and extortion. The arrest followed a complaint filed by an employee of a YouTube channel who alleged that Divakar threatened him after the employee asked the star to delete a video he had posted on Instagram.
Divakar, a Madurai‑based content creator who first rose to fame with a humorous recreation of a scene from the Tamil film Ghajini, earned the nickname “Watermelon Star” after the clip went viral. Prior to his online success he had trained as a physiotherapist, and his popularity later opened doors to television and digital media, including a stint on Bigg Boss Tamil.
The case centers on a recent Instagram post in which Divakar made accusations against several people and called for action against them. After the post was shared, a representative from the YouTube channel reportedly contacted him, requesting the removal of the content. According to the police report, Divakar allegedly demanded ₹1 lakh and issued threats, including a death threat, to the complainant.
Following the complaint, the Kilpauk police registered a case under provisions relating to criminal intimidation and extortion. A special investigative team was formed, and after locating Divakar in Madurai, the authorities secured his arrest. Police are continuing to examine evidence and verify the sequence of events to determine the full facts of the allegation.
