Nagarjuna, the veteran actor‑producer, took to the stage at the recent success launch of his son’s film *Lenin* to address a growing problem in Tollywood – the habit of pushing release dates back until the last moment. Speaking to a packed audience, the actor urged directors, technicians and music directors to hand over finished projects to post‑production teams at least two weeks before the scheduled release, giving the crew ample time to polish the final product.
“If we hand over the film at least two weeks before release, the post‑production team can work on it until perfection,” Nagarjuna said. “This is not about anyone else; it’s about me too. I also worked on this film until the last minute.” He highlighted his own experiences with earlier releases such as *Ninne Pelladata* and *Annamayya*, where he would review the release copy a month in advance, and questioned why the industry has moved away from that practice.
The actor cited several recent films – *Lenin*, *The Raja Saab*, *Devara*, and *Peddi* – that were slated for specific dates only to be postponed just days before opening. He reminded the crowd that *The Odyssey* had announced its release a year in advance, yet still faced delays. “Why aren’t we able to do that?” Nagarjuna asked, stressing the need for better planning for the health of cinema.
In addition to his critique, Nagarjuna reflected on his own journey with *Lenin*. He had announced a June 26 release, but the post‑production process was incomplete, forcing a postponement. “I did it for *Lenin* too,” he said, acknowledging the frustration that comes with last‑minute changes.
While addressing the delay culture, Nagarjuna also shared a personal anecdote about his prayers at Tirumala before *Lenin*’s release, hoping for a blockbuster. He expressed gratitude to the deity and noted that his wife, Bhagyashri, had requested the same blessing for herself.
*Lenin* was written and directed by Murali Kishor Abburu and produced jointly by Nagarjuna and Suryadevara Naga Vamsi under Manam Enterprises LLP and Sithara Entertainments, presented by Annapurna Studios. The film stars Akhil Akkineni and Bhagyashri Borse, with supporting roles from Ramki, Sivaji, Sunil, Brahmaji and Easwari Rao. Despite mixed reviews, the movie achieved the biggest opening of Akhil’s career, marking a triumphant return after a three‑year hiatus.
