After first stepping back from the CJP demonstration, Punjabi singer‑actor Diljit Dosanjh has now voiced his support for the students who were hit with lathicharge, tear gas and other forceful tactics by Delhi Police during the protest march to Parliament on Monday, July 20.
In an Instagram post, the star wrote, “What happened today was very wrong. Students should not have been treated like this. I request the authorities to listen to the students’ demands. The voice of the people is the voice of God.” He added that the same backlash he faced during the farmers’ protest—where he was labelled “anti‑national”—could return, but he remains ready to confront it.
Earlier in the month, Diljit had clarified on an Instagram Live that he was not involved with the CJP movement, stating he was an artist and not a politician. He had also quoted a line from the Guru Granth Sahib to emphasize reliance on God in difficult times. However, the recent post shows a shift in stance, aligning him with the students’ grievances over alleged exam paper leaks and demanding reforms.
The CJP protest, which began at Jantar Mantar and marched to Parliament, called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, justice for students affected by examination irregularities, and broader educational reforms. Diljit’s support comes as authorities face criticism for the heavy-handed dispersal of the crowd.
Despite the controversy, the singer‑actor remains determined to speak out. He noted that he has already been labelled “anti‑national” many times and that he will face similar accusations again. He concluded, “After the farmers’ protest I faced a lot of backlash and legal problems that I can’t even discuss. The rest, God is watching everything. May Baba bless everyone.”
