Cinema VinesVeteran Indian actor Anupam Kher was honoured in Toronto on September 29 with a Certificate of Recognition for his contributions to cinema, storytelling, education and mentorship. The accolade was presented by Ruby Sahota, the Member of Parliament for Brampton North—Caledon, at a ceremony that Kher highlighted on his social media accounts. In his post, the actor expressed deep gratitude, writing, “CERTIFICATE OF RECOGNITION! ❤️🇨🇦 What a wonderful feeling to receive this Certificate of Recognition in Toronto from the Hon. Ruby Sahota, Member of Parliament for Brampton North—Caledon. I am touched by her words about my work in cinema, storytelling, education and mentorship. 🙏😳😍.”
Kher reflected on the significance of the award, noting that his career has spanned decades across film, television and theatre. He added, “An actor begins by hoping to connect with the person sitting in front of the stage or screen. To learn that the work has travelled across borders and touched people here in Canada means a great deal to me.” The actor also thanked the residents of Brampton North and Caledon, and acknowledged everyone who has supported his journey, concluding his message with a heartfelt “Thank you, Ruby Sahota ji, and the residents of Brampton North, Caledon, for this generous honour. I accept it with gratitude and share it with everyone who has been part of my journey. Lots of love. Jai Ho!”
The Toronto honour comes at a pivotal moment in Kher’s North American theatre tour. He is currently touring the United States and Canada with the Hindi musical play Jaane Pehchaane Anjaane, starring opposite Swaroop Sampat. The production celebrated its 25th show in Toronto on September 27, a milestone Kher described as a testament to the city’s “amazing love.” The play, written and directed by Gajendra Iyer, has been performing in several North American cities.
In addition to his stage work, Kher has a busy film schedule ahead. He will appear in Sooraj Barjatya’s upcoming film Yeh Prem Mol Liya, featuring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sharvari, slated for theatrical release on November 27, 2026. He is also cast in Fauzi, starring Prabhas and directed by Hanu Raghavapudi, which is set to hit screens on December 3, 2026. Kher is slated to reprise his popular character Kamal Khosla in the sequel Khosla Ka Ghosla 2, originally announced for August 2026 but now awaiting a new release date.
Finally, the actor announced that he is working on his 555th film, though details about the project’s title and storyline remain undisclosed. Kher’s continued presence on both stage and screen underscores his enduring influence in the entertainment industry.
