Cinema VinesVeteran actress Udayachandrika, better known as Radha, has filed a formal police complaint against her sister, actress Ambika Nair, and their brother, Mallikarjuna Kunjan Nair—who also goes by Arjun Nair—claiming that the siblings conspired to forge and cash cheques that were never valid, amounting to nearly ₹50 crore. The complaint was lodged with the Greater Chennai Police Commissioner on Monday, following an email alert from IDBI Bank’s Porur branch on September 17 that five high‑value cheques had been presented for encashment in Ambika’s name.
The cheques in question were drawn for ₹11 lakh, ₹13.17 crore, ₹27.73 crore, ₹7 crore and ₹1.79 crore. Radha immediately requested a stop payment, stating that no transaction or legal debt existed between her and her sister. She alleges that the cheques were written in the handwriting of her brother Mallikarjuna, who is currently facing multiple financial crimes under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) and is under pressure to pay a hefty penalty imposed by the Madras High Court in a 2025 FEMA case.
According to Radha, the siblings entered her room without permission to steal the cheques in order to enrich themselves and settle their own liabilities. The disputed cheques came from a 50‑leaf book issued in 2022 for Radha’s business, which operated under the name ARS Garden Studio. After officially changing the business name to “RR Gardens” under GST regulations in January 2025 and obtaining a new cheque book, Radha considered the old cheques invalid and left them in her room.
Radha explained that she kept five or six signed blank cheques in her room to cover regular maintenance and salary payments while she was away on frequent business trips. She lives on the ground floor of her house in Valasaravakkam, where Ambika also resides and was given access to Radha’s portion out of trust. Following the discovery of the bank deposit, Radha says she is being obstructed by Ambika and Mallikarjuna from verifying her valuables, including gold and diamond ornaments, and property documents kept in the same room.
In her petition, Radha urges the police to investigate the alleged conspiracy and seeks strict criminal action against her siblings under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The case is now pending with the authorities, who will determine whether the siblings’ actions constitute fraud and forgery under Indian law.
