Actor‑filmmaker Randeep Hooda has been honored with the National Award for Best Debut Director for his historical biopic Swatantryaveer Savarkar. The accolade, presented at the annual ceremony, recognizes Hooda’s first venture into directing, in addition to his roles as lead actor and co‑writer on the film.
When asked about the win, Hooda expressed a mixture of gratitude and disbelief. "Being announced as the winner of the National Award for Best Debut Director for Swatantryaveer Savarkar is a moment I’m still trying to process," he said. He added that the project demanded more from him than any previous work, and that the journey was fraught with obstacles at every stage.
Hooda reflected on the challenges of juggling multiple responsibilities. "As an actor, co‑writer and first‑time director, I gave this film everything I had because I felt an immense responsibility towards telling Veer Savarkar’s story with sincerity and honesty," he explained. He noted that the hardships endured during production were dwarfed by the life and sacrifices of the historical figure he portrayed.
The actor took the opportunity to thank the entire crew for their unwavering support. "I’m deeply grateful to my entire team for believing in this dream and standing by it through every high and low," Hooda said. He emphasized that the award belongs to everyone involved and hopes it inspires younger generations to explore and reflect on Veer Savarkar’s legacy.
