Sunny Deol Recreates Oggy and the Cockroaches Line; Leaves Internet in Awe

During a promotional tour for his new film Batwara 1947, veteran actor Sunny Deol surprised a packed crowd in Kolkata with an unexpected homage to a childhood favourite. While answering questions about the film, a fan asked the star to repeat a line from the animated series Oggy and the Cockroaches that had been dubbed in Hindi using Deol’s distinctive voice. The fan pointed out the line, “Oye main papa hoon, duniya ka papa,” and requested that Deol deliver it in his signature style.

Deol obliged, first acknowledging that he had not watched the episode but was ready to give it a try. He then delivered the line in both Hindi and Punjabi, matching the bold, booming tone that had made the cartoon’s green cat, Jack, a cult icon in India. The performance was met with loud cheers, and the clip quickly went viral on Instagram, sparking a wave of comments that ranged from disbelief to playful speculation about Deol’s future roles.

Social media users joked that the actor’s rendition could fit a new character in an upcoming game or that it would be hilarious if he played Lord Hanuman in a mythological adaptation. One comment even imagined Deol saying, “Oye utha utha k patkunga tod dunga fod dunga oye… main papa hun iss Lanka ka Papa,” blending the cartoon line with a legendary epic.

Deol’s cameo came at a time when Oggy and the Cockroaches has been a staple of Indian pop culture since its Hindi dub began in 2012. The series, originally produced in Canada, featured a voice cast that mimicked Bollywood actors, with Jack’s voice rendered in the unmistakable timbre of Sunny Deol. The show’s popularity helped cement the cartoon’s place in the country’s entertainment landscape.

Back on the film promotion front, Batwara 1947 follows Deol as a Muslim man who relocates to Pakistan during the Partition, only to find a Hindu woman, played by Shabana Azmi, still living in his new home. As tensions rise, he vows to protect her while safeguarding his family. The film also stars Preity Zinta, Karan Deol, and Ali Fazal, and is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi.
